Il massacro dei narvali

Dal Canada giunge la notizia che in una remota regione dell´Artico i cacciatori hanno iniziato ad uccidere dei narvali (Monodon monoceros), intrappolati nel ghiaccio. I cetacei sarebbero tra i 100 ed i 200 esemplari e sono bloccati vicino Bylot Island, nei pressi del piccolo centro abitato di Pond Inlet nell´estremo nord dell´isola di Baffin.



La via d´acqua libera più vicina è a 30 miglia di distanza e i narvali stanno respirando da piccole fessure ancora esistenti nel ghiaccio e si trovano davanti a due alternative tragiche: o il massacro da parte dei cacciatori o una morte lenta soffocati sotto la banchisa.

I cacciatori si difendono dicendo "Ehi, la terra non si sta mica riscaldando?e allora come mai il ghiaccio blocca le balene". Una frase che in se racchiude tanta di quella ignoranza che purtroppo fa ancora parte del genere umano.
